Who Am I
Hi, I’m Nathan Coates and I like computers. Actually, I really like computers. So much so that I’ve been working with them for several years now.
I currently attend The University of Texas at Tyler. There, I’m pursuing a bachelor’s in information technology with a focus in Cybersecurity. I enjoy my classes and try hard to do my best. Because of my effort, I not only have a 4.0 GPA, but I’ve been on the President’s Honor Roll for over a year straight.
During my spare time, I’ve earned 3 IT certifications: the CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and the CompTIA Security+. These were not only a fantastic way to increase my understanding of current technology and standards but are a steppingstone, showing how far I’ve come. More details on these certifications are further below on this page.
If you are interested in learning more about what I do, look below at my certifications, projects, and blogs. Also feel free to message me at my email nathancoates@nathancoates.org
My Certifications /
Licenses

CompTIA Network +
The CompTIA Network+ is an IT certification that shows a person's ability to configure and troubleshoot wired/wireless networks. I passed my CompTIA Network+ certification on December 12th, 2022, and have since received it.

CompTIA Security+
The CompTIA Security+ is an IT certification that shows a person's knowledge of security best practices as well as methodologies to specific vulnerabilities. I passed my CompTIA Security+ certification on July 3rd, 2024, and have since received it.

SERV Safe Food
Managers License
The SERV Safe Food Managers License shows a person's knowledge of food safety and demonstrates their ability to protect the public from foodborne illnesses and other topics such as proper hygiene. I received my certification in September 2020.
Projects
Projects I’ve worked on have ranged from game modding to computer virtualization. All of these have not only increased my knowledge on the specific subject matter but have also increased my confidence in performing them in a time critical environment. Here is a brief list of some I have finished and some that are still in progress:
- Completing all paths on TryHackMe (on going)
- I’m currently 60% of the way done with the TryHackMe paths with the Pentest+ path up next. These paths have taught me so much in how vulnerabilities are created, found, exploited, reported, and patched.
- Creating malware analyzing lab (on going)
- Using the power of virtual machines, I’ve created a virtual network to statically and dynamically analyze modern malware strains. This has allowed me to see how malware attaches, replicates, spreads, exfiltrates, and hides, better enabling me to identify and remove these in any environment I’m in.
- Programming my own applications (on going)
- My years of experience with Java and Python have grown my problem-solving abilities, allowing me to think outside of the box to solve the hardest of challenges. When I have a specific action that needs to be automated, I will code a script to take care of the action. If I need a robust piece of software to do multiple actions with a proper front-end, I’ll make that too. It’s essentially software fabrication.
- This website (on going)
- It not enough to learn how to create an offline webpage. There needs to be a personality behind it and should be public facing so that there’s accountability. That’s what Nathancoates.org is and that’s what it’s going to remain being.
TryHackMe
I have been working with TryHackMe since May of 2023 and in that time, I have earned many badges and certifications of approval. Here is a short list but if you want to see the complete list, click the button below.
